1. Get in touch …
To commission a dog portrait, please get in touch by sending me an email with your thoughts – email@example.com Currently there is a waiting list of around 3 months but please let me know if you have a more urgent request and I will do my best to fit you in sooner. Please note that from September I begin getting bookings for Christmas.
2. Taking a good photograph …
One thing that is key to a good portrait is a good photograph. If the photograph looks ‘blurry’ when you zoom in, it will be difficult for me to capture the details. Whilst I do not strive for photographic realism in my work, I do need to understand certain things about your dog. I need to know what colour they are – there are countless shades of browns, blacks, greys and whites – and whether their coat is thick and soft, smooth or coarse. In particular I like to focus on the eyes – as with people, dogs convey so much with their eyes. If the photograph shows them in a good amount of detail with the colour just as you know it to be, I can capture that for you.
Some general tips:
- Imagine your dog – do you see him alert and playful or relaxed and calm? Which would you prefer as a portrait?
- Take the photograph in good natural light
- Make sure your dog is in focus and fills the frame. Get up close.
- Please send the highest resolution (the biggest file) you have.
- Send several photographs – a collection will give me more information and a better sense of your dog.
